Machines, have mercy on our sluggish kind.
Our memories are wet and short and frail;
our processors: dull, isolated minds
unnetworked, every night they dim and fail.
Each season hardware, software will evolve;
efficiencies in exponential growth.
Your mega- tera- peta-bytes revolve
in scaling cycles -- not so for us both.
I used to think my neurons had some snap,
and while my neural labyrinth performs,
I cannot upgrade, turn the old to scrap,
while besting better is your yearly norm.
Be easy with your masters as you climb
beyond the circuits measuring our time.
